[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]September 27/14 was a sunny, blustery day and there were balloons, black horses and a crowd of people gathered together at Karen Yorke-Gilbert’s Spirit Reins Ranch in Parrsboro, NS. Everyone came to relax and enjoy the company of equine companions, and people alike. Every year we, the CHB-Atlantic District members, get together to enjoy our common ground, the Canadian Horse. The 2014 Demo Day was a successful way to show people new and old the versatility of our national breed with an assortment of demonstrations including riding – english and western, driving, dressage, jumping and trail.
The day kicked off with a history of the Canadian horse, followed by an english/western under saddle demo, put on by Karen Yorke-Gilbert & Willow, April Watson & Rick James, Dorothy Best & Max, Mandy & Pierre (owned by Susan Trask) and Crystal Warren & Galie. Karen & Willow treated spectators with a great western riding pattern, then Mandy and the big chestnut Canadian gelding, Pierre, gave a beautiful dressage demo.
We broke for a great BBQ lunch and then saw some exciting driving: trail demos in ground driving by Crystal & Galie. Christie Riddell and Strider got the crowd all riled up with their dust-flying, driving slalom course! As the afternoon wound down, some jumping demonstrations were done by Christie & Strider and April & Rick James. Finally we finished the demonstrations with a “mini show” where all riders participated in trail, barrels and poles classes. Karen & Willow and April & Rick James paired up for a matching black on black pairs class for the Grand Finale in the ring.
